From 1996-2002, we focused on understanding that the Market for bt corns is quite exciting.
Positive Keys Biotechnology was founded 2002 to seek solutions to Hunger in Africa and out of the need to
care for the 800 million people suffering for Hunger in the World. We recognised the demand, we saw
the opportunity and our consistent pro-active acquisition and development of technical knowhow in
agriculture will bring the positive solution to poverty.
From 1996-2002, we focused on assessing the market for Biotech Corns which was quite exciting.
Our research showed that over 75% of Nigerian consume corn either as “Ogi
Barbecue Roasted Corn, cooked corn, Ekuru Agbado, Eko Agidi, Ewa ati Agbado, Agbado ati Agbon, Tuo, Guguru (Pop corns) Corn Flour or Maize Starch, Corn Syrup and Custard.
Consumer surveys consistently find that NEARLY HALF OF ALL African eat or use Corns – a statistic that
is particularly remarkable when we then come to the conclusion that through the production of Biotech corns,
the ugly poverty in Africa continent and the world would be a thing of the past.
Excerpt from the first biotech that we planted in our farm at Okitipupa Ondo State of Nigeria, we found
that growing insect resistant biotech corn provided huge economic benefits not just to the farmers that
grow it, but also to other farmers who grow conventional varieties. This also shows how Transgenic Corn
suppresses corn borer than conventional corn. This will be immense financial benefit to farmer in term of yield.
Biotech corn is genetically engineered to express the protein-based toxins of Biotech in plant tissues for the
control of two Lepidopteran insects.
Over the years, farmers in Nigeria have been facing reduction in production of corn as a result of pest
and worms which are well known as ( Kokoro agbabado in Yoruba language ) However, Positive Keys
Scientists have discovered that the Biotech corns planted in Okitipupa Ondo State of Nigeria benefit
from less pest attack than the conventional corns.
